I did it!!!

Wow - I made the clamshell pillow!! Doesn't it look so natural and beautiful in it's new home??  I wish I had more fabric so I could make this poor lonely pillow a mate.

Details:
Fabric: Amy Butler - August Fields, charm pack, jeans fabric from Joann's
16" pillow form
invisible zipper closure (go me!!)

Ok - this is now my favorite thing I've made so far - - Ben is right, I do say it every time.  But so what, it's true.

I'm especially excited about this project because I feel like it really showcases the August Fields line.  This fabric line holds a special place in my heart b/c it was the first fabric that inspired me to buy fabric just because it was pretty ... for no intended purpose ... just to oogle.  I have since grown my stash and now have a few tubs full of fabric that I love.  How much do I love this fabric??  Enough to try it in a quilt, decide 10 blocks in that it isn't really showcasing the fabric enough, and then pick it all out.  ... I hate ripping out ... I avoid it at all costs.  But for this fabric I did it.  And then for a year I looked at it, dreamed of where it could go, not finding the appropriate home until it was time for this pillow.  So there's a little background on why I'm so in love!

Off to enjoy the rest of my birthday weekend.

I'm going to link this up to Fabric Tuesday - be sure to check out what all the other awesome sewers are making over there. The link is in my sidebar.

Fabric Tuesday & My New Fabric Obsession!!!

Yay! It's Fabric Tuesday and I have a post to share!!!  I almost never get a post written in time to share .... today, as luck would have it, I have the day off.  It is bitter sweet, of course ... I have the day off because of the aftermath of hurricane Irene.  Luckily, my home was not really affected.  But many of the other Baltimorians cannot say the same thing.  Many down trees and power outages have forced the schools to close.

For me, though, that means lots of time to sew, blog, and other fun things!! =) =)

Today, I wanted to share my new obession - ribbon blankets!
Taggie Blanket
Stats:
Fabric: "Bermuda Little Birds" from the Urban Zoologie line, lined with aqua fleece
Size: 14.5"x14.5"
Bonus: lots of fun ribbons around the outside.

Why am I so obsessed???  Ohh -- for so many reasons my friends!
1. So many people are having babies, I just can't make everyone a quilt.
2. They are Q-U-I-C-K!
3. The possibilities are endless!!  flannel, fleece, black & white, rainbow ... oh my!
4. They are relatively inexpensive to make!  Which means they are great for people at work - because there is always a baby shower at work!
5. They are C-U-T-E!!!

Since I don't have any little ones of my own, I offered this one up to a friend who has a new addition to her family.  I asked her to be my tester ... for size, shape, number of ribbons, durability, etc. etc.  That way I can be sure to perfect this new found love!

I'm linking up to Fabric Tuesday. You should head on over there yourselves to check out what all the creative people have to show off today.  The link is in my side bar (which may be at the bottom of the page since I'm not an expert in Blogger just yet ....)

Sewing updates! =)

I feel like I've been cutting a lot and sewing a little . . . but here are some pictures of my most recent projects.  I'm linking up the Quiltstory - check out the button on my sidebar over there to the right!

1. Summer Quilt - - LOTS of cutting, not that much sewing - but hopefully soon!

I think I'm getting the hang of HST (half square triangles)

This a random assortment of fabric lines - - this is only a sneak peak - I'm keeping the final idea a secret - but let me just say - I think it will be awesome!

2. Sew-2-Speak's April block for April! =)
my first attempt @ applique!

3. New Wave Quilt - WIP - If you are Nicole - stop reading now!!

That's the hubby holding the quilt - keep in mind he is 6'5"
This is going to be a wedding present for my friend, Nicole.  She is getting married in 2 weeks ... and I'm pretty sure (~95% positive) she doesn't know about my blog - she loves to go on picnics and she appreciates homemade - and she doesn't have a picnic blanket.  So I thought this would be a perfect wedding present.  **If you want to make this - check out the tutorial from Oh Fransson here.  I used the suggested the fat cats ruler.

And that's what I've been working on in the sewing world.  Thanks for reading!

PS: here is a link up to the amazing quilt that Erin made from all of our blocks from the March 12 Month Quilting Bee - - I'm impressed w/not only how amazing the quilt turned out, but how fast she got this done!!!  Here is the post about my block.
