My First Quilt-A-Long

I joined my first quilt-a-long!!  Kaelin over @  The Plaid Scottie is hosting her first quilt-a-long - - a double wedding ring quilt.  This quilt is a v. daunting task.  This will be my first time using paper piecing.  For those that don't know, paper piecing is a method used to help make blocks with lots of little pieces come together much more precisely ... in other words this quilt has a million little pieces that I will have to cut and sew together!

I'm hoping that by joining the quilt-a-long I will get the motivation I need to stick through this tough-to-make quilt.

My other motivation? Beautiful fabric!!! I decided to go w/the newly coveted Prince Charming fabric by Tula Pink.

Where to Start??

I have so much to share!! But instead of overwhelming this post w/all the projects I've been up to and have coming up - I will share June's Bee Blocks that I finished =)

First: 12 Month Sewing Bee:
Julie asked us to make a house for the little person she sent.  The only requirements were to make a 15.5" block with a blue background and red roof.  We could add colors from our stash as long as it was a color in the rainbow.  So far the ladies in this bee have made beautiful blocks!! Here is the block I made

I can't wait to see how the final quilt turns out!

Second: Sew 2 Speak II
Erin asked us to make 2 Kitchen Window quilt blocks.  These are based on the tutorial from Oh Fransson's blog.  The requirements were really loose and she sent lots of fabric to choose from!!  I made 1 square and 1 rectangle.

So that's the update from quilting bee land.  Hopefully I'll update again soon w/some of the other exciting things I"ve made/am working on.

Now  - off to enjoy the warm weather! =)

My hubby is 28!!!

This is a monumental occasion!! My husband is finally old enough to get married, ha.  I know, I can hear it, "huh??" ... let me explain ....

I met Ben when I was 22 and he was 23. Very early on in our relationship there was a conversation where Ben casually mentioned he was not getting married until he was 28 ....  Now he was a young guy who was making a casual comment ... but I, of course, was a young girl falling in love ... so I obviously went into total panic mode .... "Twenty-eight??? that is 5 years from now!" I called my mom later that day and told her, "Who is he kidding .. I won't wait 5 years to get married! He's crazy!!".... of course then I felt like the crazy one! We had only known each other ~a month ... but I already knew he was someone special!

skip ahead: We ended up getting married just 2.5 years later when Ben was 25 ... but this has continued to be a running joke in our relationship - maybe soon he'll be old enough to get married.

But folks, the day has come - my hubby is now officially old enough to get married. Maybe my parents will have to throw us a 2nd wedding?? maybe we'll have to go on a 2nd honeymoon!! But there should be some amazing celebrating going on for sure!!  What do you think??
